How Customer Service Heroes Deal with Customers’ Problems

A few days ago, I was checking out at Kroger at Old Denton and Hebron. The customer in front of me pointed at our cashier, Malick, and said, “Hey! You’re that guy who helped the woman out with her ice cream last week.”

Malick smiled and said, “We all need a little help sometime.” My fellow customer said, “I was pulling out my money. But you beat me to it. I told my whole team at work about you.” As the story unfolded, I learned that the woman’s food assistance card was working, so Malik paid the $3.43 himself.

Malick tried to brush off the praise. He said a customer had given him $3.00 earlier that day. When we repeated he was a hero, he told us to have a blessed day. I asked my fellow customer to take a minute and tell the manager. While he was talking to her, I found out that Malick is attending OU this Fall. Someone who goes the extra mile should have no issue with handling college!

Before that occurrence, I was prepared to criticize customer service. Below is a link to an article telling you how to ask for better service. Know what? Malik reminded me that there are kind people who joyfully serve others.

❓When have you experienced great customer service?

When you discover those superheroes, ask to speak to their managers. Let others know how much they are appreciated. I double dog dare you!

And, if you aren’t experiencing customer service anywhere near the Malik standard, please ask for help.
