It’s been a roller coaster week. My mom, Pat, and my dad’s cousin, Maxine, celebrated significant birthdays. These firecrackers are now 88 and 90 years young.
They are two of the most significant women of my life. They have impacted my education, career choices, religious beliefs, service to community, dedication to family, and commitment to marriage.
Another woman who had a strong influence on my speaking career was Kip Adams Eads. An association superstar, she championed learning, her members, and professional speakers.
This week we lost Kip. Anyone who crossed her path knows the world is less shiny without her in it. Kip always encouraged me and others regarding speaking, writing, and life. Prayers for her family, especially her son and her husband, Rob.
The families affected by the flood are weighing heavily on many of our minds and hearts. What struck me was the impact many of the youngest victims had on others. In their limited years on this planet, they made a difference.
Then, there are the small glimmers of hope with lives saved. The impact of the first responders, care givers, and heroes who stepped up and just helped. For the most part, no fanfare, no politics, just pulling together in service and treating those victims like family.
Like many places of worship in this area, our church Aldersgate UMC Carrollton did a special offering to help those affected by this tragedy. Belonging in a place which positive impacts the community has brought me comfort while dealing with many tough times.
God Bless You in whatever you are negotiating.
